On August 29, 2025, the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine, the UAF held the opening of the first-ever Ukrainian Amputee Football Championship at the Viktor Bannikov Training Complex in Kyiv. Back then, 10 teams took part, with matches held in Kyiv, Kyiv region, Lviv, Cherkasy, and Ivano-Frankivsk.

In just one year, the “League of the Mighty” project has grown significantly, leading to the introduction of a full two-division league system in 2026.

This season, the championship expands to 18 teams.

MORE THAN SPORT: A SYMBOL OF RESILIENCE

Most championship participants are war veterans who lost limbs defending Ukraine. For them, this tournament is more than sport - it is a symbol of returning to active life for thousands of veterans.

The UAF is building a full-fledged amputee football league system during wartime, a development that has already drawn international attention.

Ukraine is now among the most active countries in Europe in developing amputee football. In just over a year, the “League of the Mighty” project has helped establish teams in 18 cities. The addition of six debut teams in 2026 is a clear sign of this rapid growth.

INTERNATIONAL REPRESENTATION

The Super League champion will earn the right to compete in the EAFF Champions League 2027, representing Ukraine among Europe’s top clubs.

Participation at this level is a key step in the development of Ukrainian amputee football and its integration into the European sports community.
